Malaysia's British colonial past and large expatriate community mean that British and Irish pubs are easy to find in the country's main cities. Kuala Lumpur has the biggest choice, with pubs clustered around Bukit Bintang, Changkat, Bangsar and Mont Kiara, many of them showing the Premier League and rugby on big screens and serving pub classics alongside local favourites.

Penang's George Town mixes heritage shophouse bars with a handful of proper British-style locals, while Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi each have pubs popular with expats, divers and holidaymakers. Beer is more expensive than in neighbouring Thailand because of excise duties, so look out for happy-hour deals, which are common across the country.
