Singapore has one of the deepest British and Irish pub scenes in Asia, which is no surprise given the island's long British history and a large expat population from the UK, Ireland, Australia and beyond. From Victorian-style taverns on the Boat Quay riverfront to neighbourhood locals in Katong and Bukit Batok, you are rarely more than a short MRT ride from a proper pint, a plate of fish and chips or a Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings.

The CBD and Boat Quay are home to some of the city's oldest pubs, busy with office workers after 6pm and with rugby and football fans at weekends. Orchard Road has a cluster of long-running Irish bars within walking distance of the shopping malls, while the East Coast, Holland Village and the west of the island offer quieter, more local pubs where the landlord knows the regulars by name.

Drink prices in Singapore are high by regional standards because of alcohol duty, so happy hours matter. Most pubs run them from mid-afternoon until early evening, and many show the Premier League, Six Nations and Formula 1 live despite the late kick-off times.
