Laos

Laos is one of the quieter corners of Southeast Asia, but its expat and backpacker communities support a handful of Western-style pubs. Vientiane, the capital, has a few British and Irish-influenced bars near the Mekong riverfront, where you can catch the football with a Beerlao or an imported pint.

Luang Prabang is more laid-back and has an early curfew, but a small number of bars serve travellers looking for a familiar atmosphere after a day of temples and waterfalls.
