Plenty of Jakarta bars call themselves pubs, but most are beer halls with a live band or karaoke. A genuine British or Irish pub, with the dark wood, the pub grub and the atmosphere of a proper local, is much harder to find. Pub Go Where lists only those.

Kemang is home to the capital's best-known British local, a Kemang Raya institution since 1989, with a beer garden, a curry night, a weekly quiz and the Premier League on the screens. Mega Kuningan and the business districts have a small number of Irish and British pubs serving the diplomatic and corporate crowd after work.

Expect stout, often Guinness from a microdraught system, alongside draught Bintang and Heineken, and menus that mix pub classics with Indonesian favourites. Opening hours vary and some pubs close on Sundays, so check the listing before you go.
