Hanoi's pub scene splits between the Old Quarter, near Hoan Kiem Lake, and Tay Ho (West Lake), where much of the city's expat community lives. Look for Irish bars, British-style pubs and sports bars that are popular with teachers, NGO workers and diplomats.

Expect a friendly crowd, quiz nights, live music and cheap pints, with bia hoi on every corner for comparison.
