The Snug lives up to its name: a compact, low-lit bar on Dang Thai Mai in the Quang An corner of Tay Ho, decorated with bunting, framed pictures and a painted ceiling, with a small garden area at the front. Reviewers keep coming back to the welcoming owner and staff and the strong expat following.
Drinks run from beers and cocktails to whiskeys; note that Guinness has been served by the can rather than on draught. There is a food menu, though the kitchen keeps shorter hours than the bar.
Wednesday night is quiz night, with 36 questions across music, sport, science and geography plus picture and puzzle rounds, and themed quizzes on the first Wednesday of the month. Hurling and other Irish sport get shown, and musicians play on some nights. It is closed on Mondays and opens from 5.30pm otherwise (5pm on Sundays). Cash only.
