Named after the smugglers who once worked the waters off Stanley, Smugglers Inn is a small, unashamedly divey British-style pub on Stanley Main Street, on the south side of Hong Kong Island. A black skull-and-crossbones sign hangs over the door, the beams are dark wood, and drinks go down on tables and stools made from old beer barrels. The walls and ceiling are papered with banknotes and notes left by visitors from around the world.
Guinness, Stella Artois and Carlsberg are poured by the pint, and the kitchen keeps it simple with pub staples such as fish and chips, burgers, chicken wings and onion rings. There is a TV for the sport, and darts has long been part of the pub's life, with local and expat players competing for free drinks.
The front opens straight onto the promenade, with stools at a counter facing the street and views across Stanley Bay, which makes it a natural stop after a day on the beach or at Stanley Market.
