The Red Lion opened in 1997 and is one of the oldest pubs in Chiang Mai. It sits on Loi Kroh Road in the middle of the Night Bazaar, next to the Hard Rock Cafe and the Royal Lanna Hotel, and is run by Kevin, from Liverpool, and his wife Ging. Inside is an air-conditioned bar; outside, a terrace looks onto the market crowds.
Draught Guinness, Heineken and San Miguel are joined by English ales, Thatchers ciders and Belgian and German bottles. Food is served from 11:30am, with British staples such as fish and chips, sausage and mash and steak and kidney pie alongside steaks, schnitzels and Thai dishes.
Weekend sport includes Premier League football, Six Nations rugby, Formula 1 and MotoGP. Christmas dinner on the 24th and 25th December is a popular booking. There is paid parking at the Chinese temple 80 metres further along the road.
