The Drunken Leprechaun has been a Patong fixture for years, and after a spell out of action it is back on Ruam Jai Road as the Irish bar of the Radisson RED Phuket hotel, in the middle of Patong's bars and restaurants. Inside it looks the part: dark green panelling, a black-and-white chequered floor, wooden tables and chairs, a big brass chandelier and the pub's name painted in gold above the bar.
There is usually something going on. Live bands and acoustic sets play in the evenings, the football is on the big screens (the pub says it shows all of it), and there are pub games, themed nights and prizes through the week. The kitchen sticks to pub favourites, with crispy fish and chips, creamy pies and loaded fries, plus a few spicy Thai dishes, and there is a happy hour on pints and cocktails.
It opens daily from 2pm until midnight, and tables can be booked by phone or WhatsApp on +66 88 271 2950, which is worth doing on big match nights. If you are staying in Patong, the Irish Times Pub in Jungceylon is also close by, and for a Sunday roast head south to The Green Man in Rawai.
