The Shamrock, which calls itself the original after a second bar took a similar name, sits on An Thuong 32 in the backpacker and expat grid a few streets back from My Khe beach. It is open 24 hours a day, every day, which makes it the obvious stop for European football kicking off in the small hours.
Inside, an Irish flag made of flowers hangs over the bar, bunting crosses the ceiling and a row of screens shows whatever match matters most; reviewers say football takes priority. There is a pool table and a dartboard, with pool and darts competitions, plus regular barbecues and live music nights.
The kitchen keeps it short and homely, built around shepherd's pie, Irish stew and chicken curry. Guinness comes in cans and draught beer is cheap. Expect a mixed crowd of travellers and long-stay residents, and a smoky room on busy nights.
