The Queen Victoria Inn, better known to regulars as the Queen Vic, opened on Soi 6 in central Pattaya in October 2001 and has been pulling pints ever since. Its owners set out to give one of the town's busiest sois a calmer place to sit down with a drink or a proper meal, and the result is a traditional English pub downstairs with 33 budget guest rooms above.
The bar is all dark wood and brass, with a row of draught taps that includes Guinness, Heineken and Beck's, and a collection of beer jugs and pub memorabilia hanging from the beams. Food runs from 9am until late, with a full English breakfast, sandwiches and snacks, classic pub mains and a Thai menu alongside.
The big draw is the Great British Sunday Carvery, served from noon to 7pm: soup or prawn cocktail and a salad bar, then roast beef, ham, chicken and pork with all the trimmings, followed by dessert. Hungry visitors can also take on the pub's Devil Dog challenge, a three-foot hot dog with chilli con carne and fries, to get their name on the wall of fame.
