The Irish Times has been part of Patong for years and bills itself as the only Irish-owned pub in Phuket. It sits in the Sino Phuket zone of Jungceylon Shopping Mall, a few minutes' walk from the beach, with a handful of tables outside the entrance.
Guinness and Magners are on draught alongside local beers, and there is a long whiskey list. The kitchen serves an all-day Irish breakfast with black pudding, fish and chips, Guinness pie, Irish stew and bangers and mash, plus 'steak on stone' cooked at the table. Each weekday has a food theme, from Rib Tuesday to Fish and Chips Friday.
Big screens carry Premier League football, Formula 1, cricket, golf and MotoGP. Wednesday is quiz night and Sunday brings a carvery of lamb, beef, pork, ham and chicken. Being inside the mall makes it a handy, air-conditioned stop away from the Bangla Road crowds.
