Breaks sits on the ground floor of May Bong Mansion in Prince Edward, a short walk from Boundary Street and well away from the tourist bars of Tsim Sha Tsui. Its dark-wood interior, curved tiled bar and padded stools are modelled on a no-nonsense British local, and the regulars are mostly people who live or work nearby.
The bar carries a row of draught taps including Guinness, which local writers single out for being poured properly, along with Strongbow cider, Japanese lagers and a well-stocked back bar of spirits.
The name points to the main pastime: there is a snooker table at the back, and many regulars come for a frame as much as a pint. It suits Mong Kok and Prince Edward residents who want a quiet pub without crossing the harbour or heading south to Knutsford Terrace.
